The Northland Community Independence Day Parade is celebrating 50 years this year, and to coincide with Columbus' Bicentennial, the theme for 2012 is "Celebration of History."
The Neighborhood Pride program is celebrating 13 years during the 2012 season, with a continued aim on bringing attention to various neighborhoods throughout Columbus. These neighborhoods will see year-long efforts focused on engaging residents, business owners and volunteers to beautify and strengthen these communities. That includes street sweeping, pothole repair, community events, bike rides and other programs.
Talk about planning ahead: The Cultural Arts Center is gathering miniature artworks for an exhibit in 2112. More than 150 central Ohio artists have contributed small pieces for a time capsule that the center will bury in its courtyard and garden on June 3, during the Columbus Arts Festival.
As part of the celebration of the city's 200th birthday, areas such as Northland and Clintonville are being offered, at no charge, five "gateway" signs to be installed in these communities.
The Franklin County commissioners are expected to unveil today a $20,000 art installation that soon will grace the Broad Street bridge as part of the Columbus bicentennial celebration. The installation is part of a larger project, “Finding Time: Columbus Public Art 2012."

Observant fans watching OSU's spring game may have noticed a tiny addition to the usually label-free jerseys—a small, rectangular patch affixed on the right front. The patch, which said simply, “200Columbus” was a nod by the OSU athletic department to commemorate Columbus’s 2012 bicentennial year.
Tap dancer and “Thinking on Their Feet” filmmaker Jenai Cutcher West brings her new book, “Columbus Moves: A Brief History of Contemporary Dance,” to its namesake city on May 2. With the city celebrating its bicentennial, Columbus State’s annual Downtown Digital Arts Festival will include an entire room dedicated to Columbus, including images of the city's skyline, Short North, Ohio Theater and other landmarks. The display includes artwork from current and past students.

The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) in collaboration with the Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District (SID) has announced a call for entries for the Columbus Arts Pop-Up Project (CAP-UP), a series of installation window displays by area artists.
